Diversity-Multiplexing Tradeoff in Multiple Antenna Systems with Quantized Feedback

چکیده
In this paper, we derive lower bounds on optimal diversity-multiplexing tradeoff in multiple antenna channels when the transmitter has finite bits of channel state information. We show that for each multiplexing gain, the diversity order is higher than the case without feedback. Furthermore, as the number of feedback bits increases, the diversity-multiplexing tradeoff grows unboundedly to approach the case of perfect channel state information at the transmitter. The major reason for diversity order gain is the opportunistic use of channel degrees of freedom, in the form of “location-dependent” temporal power control, which adapts the power control strategy based on the average signal to noise ratio of the channel. Quantized Feedback for Slow Fading Channels
Two topics in fading channels with a strict delay constraint and a resolution-constrained feedback link are treated in this thesis.First, a multi-layer variable-rate single-antenna communication systemwith quantized feedback, where the expected rate is chosen as the per-formance measure, is studied under both short-term and long-term powerconstraints. Iterative algorithms ex...
متن کاملOn Diversity and Multiplexing Gain of Multiple Antenna Systems with Transmitter Channel Information
We quantify the multiplexing-diversity tradeoff of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, when the channel state information (CSI) is known perfectly at the receiver and partially at the transmitter. The partial knowledge of CSI at the transmitter consists of the quantized value of one of the eigenvalues and perfect knowledge of eigenvectors of the channel matrix. The key result is tha...
متن کاملSelect and Forward: Unifying Cooperative Diversity and Routing in a common framework
We study the diversity multiplexing tradeoff in cooperative diversity systems involving multiple relays. We show that distributed space time codes are not always fundamentally necessary in realizing the potential gains in these systems. In particular, under a wide variety of scenarios, we show that a smart relay selection algorithm in conjunction with conventional protocols for the three node s...

This thesis studies some fundamental aspects of wireless systems with partial channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT), with a special emphasis on the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. The first contribution is a study on multi-layer variable-rate communication systems with quantized feedback, where the expected rate is chosen as the performance measure. Iterative algorithms e...
متن کاملDiversity Versus Multiplexing in Narrowband MIMO Channels: A Tradeoff Based on Euclidean Distance
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems use antenna arrays at both the transmitter and the receiver to offer substantial benefits in terms of rate and reliability. Two standard approaches for communicating in MIMO systems are spatial multiplexing and transmit diversity. Multiplexing sends independent information streams across the transmit antennas to maximize rate while tra...
